Bioinformatics and Integrative Genomics (BIG) PhD Program
BIG aims to train future leaders in the field of bioinformatics and genomics. Our students have a strong quantitative training (e.g., computer science, mathematics, statistics, and engineering) and are interested in applying their skills to solve fundamental problems in biological and medical sciences. They take courses in genetics and molecular biology as well as advanced courses in functional genomics and statistics. Although the program is based at the Department of Biomedical Informatics, our 50+ faculty members come from several departments at Harvard including those at the affiliated hospitals, and they work in a wide range of areas, from cancer genomics and population genetics to molecular evolution and machine learning approaches for clinical data.
