 Jorge Gálvez is a pediatric anesthesiologist dedicated to improving quality and safety for children requiring surgery by leveraging the electronic health record and innovative technologies. His research interests focus on applying data visualization and advanced analytics tools to guide medical decision making and provide clinical decision support. He is passionate about improving the patient experience for all children, especially those with anxiety and unique needs. 

He is a member of the Section of Biomedical Informatics in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine as well as the Department of Biomedical and Health Informatics at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). He is board certified in anesthesiology, pediatric anesthesiology and clinical informatics. He is actively involved in the implementation and maintenance of the anesthesia information management system (AIMS) at CHOP.

He serves as the chair of the patient blood management committee at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and has developed a program to monitor blood product transfusion practices in the preoperative setting. His contribution led to the development and implementation of a risk stratification system in the electronic health record for children undergoing surgical procedures.

Nationally, Dr. Galvez works with the American Academy of Blood Banks, the Society for Technology in Anesthesia and the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia to improve EHRs and AIMS for pediatric hospitals. Dr. Galvez led the development team who created the iOS application "Pedi Crisis" based on the society of pediatric anesthesia’s critical event algorithms.  Released in 2013, it has been downloaded in over 100 countries and remains actively used worldwide.

Dr. Gálvez is a father of three children and is a caring anesthesiologist and enjoys unicycling with his kids whenever he has a chance.
