Conference Presentation

Adarsha Bajracharya, second year MMSc student, presented his abstract "An Interactive Web-based Interview to Improve Family Medical History Documentation" at the Americen Medical Informatics Association Annual Symposium in Washington, DC, November 2014.

Problem: In a busy primary care clinic, collection of family medical history is often limited  and this information is under utilized for risk stratification. This is often due to time constraint and lack of adequate systems.

Solution:We developed and deployed an interactive web-based FMH interview within PatientSite at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center that allows patients to provide information about their family medical history for their providers to review. This interview also allows patients to leave at anytime and return in future to complete the remaining part of the interview.

Result: In the seven months of its deployment more than 1200 patients completed the interview, of which more than 60% were older than 50 years of age.
