BIRT Postdoctoral Fellow, Jeremiah Ronquillo, Presented Poster at 2011 AMIA Symposium
Jeremiah Ronquillo, a BIRT postdoctoral fellow, presented a poster at this years AMIA Annual Symposium in Washington, DC.
His poster, entitled “Understanding Current Trends in Genetic Testing”, described research focused on better understanding the patient population affected by genetic testing as a way to lay the foundation for the design and development of effective genome-enabled EHRs. The research presented in this poster highlighted that genetic testing has increased over time but remains low. In addition, younger age groups have shown more dramatic changes in testing rates, and patients were frequently younger females of child-bearing age. Further studies are needed to address the design, development, and implementation of EHRs capable of managing the critical genetic health information challenges of the future.
